"For a Yellow Room"

A commission for a friend, meant for a yellow room.

For the "underpainting" I used artist's (liquitex) acrylic spray paint (oranges, reds, and yellows). I then added countless layers of heavy-body acrylic paints (some mixed with stucco, some heavy-gloss medium) on top with a palette knife. This painting has a sculptural quality that I find to be engaging and visually successful. Photographs aren't a substitute for seeing the real work, but as usual, it's all in the details.

Biography

Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1987.

Alison grew up in Goffstown, New Hampshire with two artists for parents. She began taking art lessons at the Currier Museum of Art at the age of seven and graduated cum laude from Keene State College in 2009 with a degree in art history and studio art. During the summer of her sophomore year at KSC she interned at the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College working with the curator of European art. She continued to volunteer at the museum throughout her college career. In February 2010, she was hired by the museum’s a public relations office, where she continues to work today.
